Enter the Season of Transition and Acceleration

Happy New Year,

I haven’t been on the blog in a while. I’m still here.

If you’re here you likely stumbled upon my page from somewhere on the Internet and I’m really happy that you did. If you’re new here...welcome. If you’ve been here for a while. Thanks for sticking with me.

I’m declaring 2019 as the year of transition and acceleration. Iʼve completed a phase of discovery and realized that I had to truly step into my purpose without fear.

I’ve taught clients to do the same, yet secretly I’ve held on to the fear of doing what it was that I am truly called to do.

My mission as a business and career coach is to serve creative entrepreneurs and professionals to use your gifts and talents to serve others and to create a living for yourself. To help you create a legacy you’re proud to leave behind.

When I started my first creative biz in 2008 I thought I knew what I was doing.

🤣, looking back I cringe at my level of clue-less-ness. I had no idea. I mean I graduated with a commerce degree and understood business principles, but did I really know what it meant to be my an entrepreneur? Nope. That, I had to learn through experience.

I loved Image Consulting. I loved helping clients with their personal presentation, improving their confidence and fixing their wardrobe dilemmas.

But something stopped me from going hard in that business.

What I didn’t know then was that my limiting beliefs and mindset caused me to believe that I simply wasn’t good enough. 

I’d ask myself who would believe me (despite evidence of clients paying me handsomely for my services), why would anyone trust me with their image (even though I had raving reviews proving that I was trusted). 

I’d constantly make excuses for my successes and falsely validate my failures and fears.

I walked away from that business because I simply stood in my own way. It had nothing to do with my ability and everything to do with my belief...or lack thereof.

My lesson learned...you can’t sell confidence if you ain’t got it yourself!! No one will believe your B.S.

So...today I’m expanding my business and adding onto my corporate training practice.

I’m building a brand that will support creative entrepreneurs. I’m here to cut through the confusion for my fellow creatives. 

I’m here to help you turn your talents into profit. I’m here not only to teach you the tricks of the trade that I’ve had to figure out through years of trial and error...but I’m here to help you shift your beliefs. 

I’ll help you understand your calling, to look beyond the $$ and see your clients, as well, to understand the  B.S (belief systems) that may be stopping you from soaring.

I’m here, not for a  transaction, but to support you with your transformation.

If you want to work with someone who will have your back and not treat you like another number, another statistic, another check in the cart...I’m your girl!

Today is World Mental Health Day. Is Your Job Making You SICK?

Hello,

Did you know that today is World Mental Health Day?

The focus of this initiative is to tackle the issues surrounding mental health in the workplace.

I understand this issue very well. I left my last career because the work-related stress was intolerable.

At the time, I placed a lot of blame on myself but later discovered that it had a lot to do with my environment and circumstances I did not understand nor could control.

The stress we encounter at work often has a lot to do with whether or not the job is the right 'fit' and many times due to lack of proper leadership.

I did not know how to cope, but eventually, I sought out help and found my way...out!

Here are some interesting statistics for you taken straight from Statistics Canada:

  • The average Canadian spends 8.03 hours of their waking hours physically at work. That doesn't include time away completing work-related activities.

 

  • "Six in ten highly stressed workers identify work as their main source of stress (62%)"

 

  • "Mental health is highly correlated with chronic stress. Numerous studies link chronic stress to anxiety, depression, insomnia, fatigue and substance abuse."

 

  • "Chronic stress can cause memory loss and can change the brain's structure and functioning, affecting a person's susceptibility to depression and the effects of aging."

 

  • "Long-term stress is also highly correlated with the development and progression of many chronic physical diseases, such as heart disease, arthritis, ulcers, asthma and migraine." 

 

  • "Highly stressed workers who identified their job or workplace as their main source of stress were well-educated—almost three-quarters had a college or university education—and over one-half held white-collar jobs in management, professional or technical occupations."

 

For many, these statistics will not come as a surprise. Mental health problems at work, is a big deal.


Are you struggling to cope? Here are some tips to help you along the way...

 

WHERE CAN YOU GET HELP?

1. Seek out a licensed therapist through your confidential Employee Assistance Program (If you have access to one). Otherwise, ask your doctor for a referral.

2. Try to figure out the specific triggers that lead to your stress and find a way to get the support you need from leadership.

This can be tricky because some environments and leaders are not supportive and may actually make the situation worse.

If you find yourself in such a situation, you may wish to approach it by explaining your desire to improve the working conditions and overall outcomes at work. In essence, if those things improve, your condition will likely benefit as well.

3. Learn coping strategies for issues such as anxiety. Meditate, breathe, focus on the positive, take time out when necessary

4. Work with a coach or a mentor, someone who can help you to set goals and gain clarity about your work. Many times, as I discovered, the stress comes from being in a place, doing work and being amongst people that are not in alignment with who we are.

Our health is our wealth. If your job is making you sick, it can impact your overall well being. Seek out the help you need to get better. No job is worth your sanity or physical health.

Do you take the time to reflect upon your life? It can be a challenge when juggle so much. Yet reflecting has been proven to help evaluate our experiences.

Oh the Mirror!

 

That  dreaded little piece of reflective equipment. I remember there was a time when I used to absolutely dislike looking in the mirror (literally and figuratively). There was this thing happening with my self-esteem that just would not allow me to feel comfortable looking back at myself. A lot of it stemmed from the fact that I felt very 'unpretty' , but also because I just didn't like who I thought I was. That was a period where I can honestly say I did not value myself. I was young, uncertain of my identity, confused about my purpose. I assessed my value based on what I assumed others thought about me. Fundamentally, I was lost.

Have you ever felt a strong dislike toward yourself? Maybe because of something physical or maybe more to do with something that you did or maybe because of who someone else told you that you were/are?

Well, can I tell you something? It's normal for us to go through periods of low self esteem. It's a part of getting to know who we are. What keeps us stuck though is when we are unable to see our worth entirely. When our self esteem remains low and we are unable to see value in who are are. 

For me, getting unstuck was really about discovering my overall beauty and learning not to judge myself by my past mistakes.  When I was able to do that, I invited morning sessions where I would just stare in the mirror...just because. I was ok with interacting with people because I knew my worth. I no longer feared 'what are they going to say about me'. That became irrelevant. When that happened, I was able to focus on my growth both personally and professionally.

In the 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth, John Maxwell shares with us that many people fail to reach their full potential because of low self-esteem. I have also found this to be true throughout my journey. The people that are the most successful are those who have a firm confidence in who they are and what they are all about.

Whether your mirror is physical or mental, are you able to face it? Are you able to look back at what is being presented to you and say that you are alright with the reflection? If not, how can you work on building your self-esteem so that you are in a position to really appreciate and value all that you are and can potentially be?

You are worth the effort, time and energy needed to develop yourself. If you see value in yourself, you will add value to yourself.

Weekly Challenge: Let's Grow with Intention

 

'Growth doesn't just happen' John C. Maxwell.

Can I give you a challenge for this week ahead?

Write down on a piece of paper 1 goal that you would like to achieve in the next 3 months. Something you have been longing to do but you haven't yet figured out how you will get it done.

After you write that down, start envisioning what your life would look like when you achieve that goal. How will you feel? What will you be doing? how will it benefit others? Envision it with as much detail as possible.

Building a personal brand that distinguishes us from the other billions of people in this world starts with the decision to be intentional about our personal growth.
