Who remembers when maternity fashion looked like this?

Yes, it was quite a long time ago but growing up, I thought pregnancy was a period of time when women were supposed to just be big and unattractive. There really were few role models who made pregnancy look sexy. So frankly I had a negative view of pregnancy. Well, thankfully those days are LOOONG gone and we have plenty of options for looking our absolute best during this very special time. There is no excuse for being frumpy—ever and during pregnancy, every woman should make a concerted effort to keep her sexy on! Forget about getting your sexy back later, keep your style fresh and your self esteem up. In this post we will provide examples of key pieces you may want to consider to be  stylish and preggers this summer.

Staples:

Any thing with stretch fabric. I mean any and everything that will stretch with your growing bod. The key pieces that you want to have in your wardrobe should include:

At least 1 Blazer in your best neutral colour (white, brown, black, cream, navy, taupe) or if you want to be on trend, a vibrant energetic colour that compliments your complexion.

As many stretch tanks and tops and blouses as you can afford and need for your lifestyle. Typically 5 basics and a few prints should give you enough for good rotation. Get them in florals, stripes, prints, bold colours, sheer, lace, whatever tickles your fancy. Just make sure that they are cute. Drape, scoop and v-necks get the most points for sexiness. Also, consider silk and sheer blouses as well. These pieces can be worn alone or layered under sweaters, shawls, blazers, etc.

On to trousers and denim. Opt for elastic waists or maternity specific pants and denim. It is no fun trying to button pants that have given up on you so don’t fight it, just get yourself one or two comfy pairs of demin. Our denim picks: 7 For All Mankind Secret Fit Belly™ 5 Pocket Slim Leg Maternity Jeans, Paige Premium Denim Secret Fit Belly(tm) 5 Pocket Slim Leg Maternity Jeans and because they are so cute, despite not having an elastic waist, Biana Wide Leg in Drapey Light Aquamarine. As for trousers and leggings, the same principle applies. If you plan on wearing leggings, please please for the love of Mother Theresa, cover your butt! leggings are not pants. Your rear should be covered.

Next, let’s look at dresses. Thankfully it is hot outside so you can go nuts with your dress choices. Maxi’s, wraps and soft flowing colour blocked dresses are pretty sexy. Try to be versatile. Dresses will be your best friends because they do not restrict movement as much as pants.

There you have it. You no longer have to wear moo-moo’s or feel like you’re style has to die just because you are pregnant. Go out and keep your sexy!

Tomorrow, we will look at accessories that you can use to doll up these basics.
